○김명수 대한민국 합참의장, 댄 케인 미국 합참의장, 요시다 요시히데 일본 통합막료장은 2025년 7월 11일 대한민국 서울에서 제22차 한미일 합참의장(Tri-CHOD)회의를 개최하였습니다. 한미 합참의장과 일본 통합막료장은 한반도, 인태지역 및 글로벌 안보현안을 해결하기 위해 3국의 긴밀한 협력이 중요하다는 것에 인식을 같이 했습니다.

○한미 합참의장과 일본 통합막료장은 북한의 불법적인 핵 및 탄도미사일 개발 프로그램 지속을 규탄하고 유엔 안보리 결의안(UNSCR)에 따라 북한의 완전한 비핵화를 위해 계속 협력하기로 의견을 모았습니다. 또한 북한의 러시아에 대한 파병과 러시아에서 북한으로의 군사 기술 이전 가능성에 대해서도 논의했습니다. 한미 합참의장과 일본 통합막료장은 한반도, 인태지역 및 그 너머에서 불안정을 야기하는 북한의 모든 불법적 행동을 즉시 중단하도록 촉구하고 북한의 위협에 공동 대응하기 위한 노력을 지속하기로 약속했습니다.

○한미 합참의장과 일본 통합막료장은 한미일 안보협력이 한반도와 인태지역의 평화와 번영을 촉진하는데 중요한 역할을 했다는 점을 재확인했습니다. 또한 역내 평화와 안정을 위한 3국간 협력을 심화할 수 있는 다양한 방안에 대해 집중 논의했습니다.

○또한, 한미 합참의장 및 일본 통합막료장은 미국에서 2026년 한미일 합참의장 회의를 개최하기로 합의했습니다. 회의 종료 후, 한미 합참의장과 일본 통합막료장은 북한의 기습 어뢰 공격으로 2010년 3월 산화한 천안함 46명의 용사를 추모하기 위해 대한민국 해군 제2함대 사령부를 함께 방문합니다.

○Kim Myung-soo, U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, and Japan Chief of Staff, Joint Staff Gen. Yoshida Yoshihide convened the 22nd Trilateral Chiefs of Defense (Tri-CHOD) Meeting on July 11, 2025, in Seoul. The three chiefs of defense recognized the importance of close trilateral cooperation in addressing security challenges on the Korean Peninsula, in the Indo-pacific and beyond.

○The defense chiefs condemned the DPRK's continued development of unlawful nuclear and ballistic missile programs and agreed to continue coordination toward the complete denuclearization of the DPRK in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs). They also discussed the deployment of the DPRK’s troops to Russia; as well as the potential transfer of military technology from Russia to the DPRK. They urged the DPRK to immediately cease all unlawful activities to destabilize the Korean Peninsula, the Indo-Pacific, and beyond, and pledged to continue working together to respond to the DPRK's threats.

○The three defense chiefs reaffirmed that trilateral security cooperation has played a key role in promoting peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific. They focused on various ways to deepen their cooperation in order to ensure peace and stability in the region.

○In addition, the defense chiefs agreed to convene the 2026 Tri-CHOD meeting in the United States. Following the meeting, they jointly wiii visit the ROK Navy 2nd Fleet Command to honor the 46 fallen sailors who were killed when the ROKS Cheonan sank in March 2010, as a result of the DPRK's surprise torpedo attack.
